Description
Set of six French Art Deco dining armchairs by Jules Leleu, executed in solid rosewood with newly upholstered seats and backs in a pale beige fabric.
The frames are finely crafted in richly figured rosewood, with a warm, deep patina that emphasizes the graceful outline of the chairs. Each chair features a gently arched, fully upholstered back framed by a narrow molded border, above a generous sprung seat for comfortable long dinners. The open arms are subtly scrolled at the handrest and flow into slender, slightly sabered front legs and curved rear legs, a restrained but recognizable vocabulary in Leleu’s dining seating of the 1930s–40s.
Leleu was celebrated for his sober luxury and perfectly balanced proportions, and this set exemplifies that approach: no applied ornament, just the dialogue between the rosewood structure, soft upholstery, and meticulously controlled curves. The neutral fabric and elegant line make these chairs ideal around a fine Art Deco or contemporary dining table, as well as for use as occasional armchairs in a refined interior. - More Information
