Description
Available right now, with complimentary domestic shipping included this midcentury sofa in Brazilian Rosewood, as known as Jacaranda and brown leather designed by Liceu de Artes e Oficios is absolute stunning!
The “Canoa” (canoe) model was inspired by the Brazilian canoes used in the Amazon. This can be seen in the sofa arms that resemble a canoe handle. The delicate woodwork is spectacular and can be seen throughout the piece but mostly in the arms and legs. The old Jacaranda has colorful veins showcasing the age of the piece as well as levity in its design.
Reupholstered. The Italian leather is smooth, and the sofa is not only beautiful but very comfortable. The wood was refinished and besides the marks of age (which are minimal) the piece is in excellent condition. The sofa fits 3 to 4 people comfortably. Armchairs are available for sale also.
This piece would look incredible in any modern, Mid-Century Modern, boho or contemporary environment.
The piece was designed and executed by the Liceu De Artes & Oficios, an institution founded in 1873 by a group of elite coffee barons that pretended to train skilled labor for possible future industrialization of Brazil. During the golden years of production many sofas, armchairs, credenzas by many Brazilian young designers were manufactured and commercialized by Liceu de Artes e Oficios. Lucio COSTA, the Brazilian urban planner, and architect best known for his plan for Brasilia taught and led the design department from 1938 to 1954.
Liceu de Artes e Oficios pieces have sharply increased in popularity in recent years. A quick search online will yield a treasure Trove of these pieces being used in several stunning contemporary environments.
