Brazilian Modern Sofa in Hardwood & Fabric by Liceu de Artes, c. 1960s
-
Description
This sofa is made with Rosewood and it has been reupholstered with a beautiful off-white fabric. What makes this sofa so unique are the built-in side tables (also made with Rosewood). The sofa and side tables are low, which allows for a comfortable seating.
The piece is displayed in our showroom next to a coffee table designed by Joaquim Tenreiro and a pair of armchairs by Geraldo de Barros. A piece like this will look great in a mid-century modern environment as well a modern, contemporary or farmhouse.
Liceu de Artes e Oficios is a technical school in São Paulo, Brazil, that was founded in 1873. It was one of the first institutions in the country to offer vocational training in the arts and crafts, including woodworking, metalworking, and painting.

Led by Lucio Costa, the architecture and design department of the Sao Paulo school of Arts & Crafts created stunning furniture pieces during the latter half of the 20th century, showcasing the immense talent of its students.
Today, Liceu de Artes e Oficios continues to offer high-quality vocational training to students from all over Brazil.
