Description
An extraordinary and very rare rocking chair originating from the 1930s, meticulously crafted and designed by Ditta Porino of Torino, Italy.
The design of this piece evokes awe through its profound simplicity. A solitary caned seat delicately rests atop two organically shaped legs, crafted from bentwood beech, showcasing a harmony of form and function.
Porino's vision for this chair transcends conventional design, incorporating a modular concept. By inverting the two legs, as depicted in the accompanying imagery, the chair transforms seamlessly into two distinct models—a lounge chair and a rocking chair—reflecting a foresight that predates similar designs by approximately four decades.
Comparisons to the Crassevig rocking chair are inevitable, yet subtle disparities in construction quality emerge upon closer examination. While the later model from the 1970s bears visible screws, the Porino chair boasts a construction devoid of noticeable joints, attesting to a superior level of craftsmanship.
This specimen has undergone a meticulous restoration process, including the expert hand-knotting of its cane by our in-house restoration atelier, ensuring its structural integrity and longevity. Notably, a metal manufacturer's label is discreetly positioned beneath the seat, underscoring its authenticity.
