Description
A symbol of Bauhaus and midcentury design, Marcel Breuer's Wassily chair is a design piece of significant importance. Taking the traditional design of the decorative furniture of the time Breuer boils down the anatomy of a chair to basic angles, lines, and planes. The chair's design is executed very much in an architectural manner and Breuer identifies specific areas of importance on the piece with planes of leather; one for ever spot the body will touch.
His design was originally produced for Thonet, after which the license was transferred to Gavina, Italy. This iteration of the Wassily chair is an authentic Made in Italy by Gavina design. Knoll currently own's the license for Breuer's design having purchased Gavina for all Breuer design licenses. -
