Description
SET OF FIVE LEATHER-BOUND CERUSED RATTAN DINING CHAIRS WITH LEATHER-BOUND BAMBOO DINING TABLE
Designed by McGuire of San Francisco, circa early 2000s | chairs with brass plaques retained to the underside
ref. 502FHP14Q
chairs: 34 3/8" H x 20 7/8" D x 21 1/2" W; 19 1/8" H to seat
table: 29" H x 47 5/8" diameter
This elegant dining set was crafted by McGuire of San Francisco. It features a round glass-top table and five matching chairs all constructed from rattan that has been meticulously wrapped in leather for durability and a refined aesthetic. The rattan is lightly cerused, which takes the saturation down slightly and gives each the sense of an aged and time-worn surface. Each chair is upholstered with cream-colored fabric featuring a subtle geometric pattern, providing both comfort and a timeless appearance. The chairs are characterized by their curved armrests and sturdy straight legs locked together firmly with a box-stretched design, each with brass McGuire plaques affixed to the underside.
The table is a perfect compliment to the chairs, having columns of bound bamboo locked together with rawhide leather ties to raise a clear thick glass top with a bevelled edging. The set’s design reflects McGuire’s signature blend of natural materials and modern functionality. It is a look they worked steadily to create since their founding in 1945 by Elinor McGuire and her husband, John, in San Francisco. Known for pioneering rattan and bamboo furniture with a sophisticated, California-inspired aesthetic, McGuire gained prominence for its innovative use of materials, incredibly high quality and meticulous attention to detail, appealing to both residential and commercial spaces.
This set, in excellent condition, showcases the durability and style that have made McGuire a respected name in furniture design. It is well-suited for collectors or those seeking a piece of mid-century modern history with practical everyday use. Condition:
A fine set, ready to place. Scuffing and abrasions here and there to the gently cerused rattan. Upholstery presents well without any noted flaws or blemishes and only minor use indicators. The tabletop has minor scuffs and use indicators, overall in very good condition. Very sturdy. -
