Description
Slipper chairs received their name during the Victorian era, when they were used to comfortably seat high-class women while they put on their shoes or slippers. Evident with this beautiful blue chair, slipper chairs usually lack arms and sit low to the ground. In the 1950s, Billy Baldwin, an American designer, popularized this style again by using slipper chairs in living rooms.
Today, slipper chairs are popular among interior designers who want to add an element of sophistication and comfort to any space. This piece always seems to come back in style due to it’s versatility; it can easily be dressed up with statement cushions, or make a subtle enhancement in any day-to-day living space. The use of blue velvet upholstery and dark wood further exudes mid-century elegance and sophistication in this piece.
The design and execution of this chair shows how the aesthetic and functional dimensions were of equal importance for the maker, and is a testament to the history of this style.
