Description
A wrought iron and leather stool by Morgan Colt, having hand-forged heavy iron double C-scroll hinged frame with distinctive crimps and shallow bow tie crossed stretchers pinned in the middle and toped with a seat of thick full hide leather with stitched seams, and decorative ring hangings below the corners. This stool is inspired by the curule or savonarola stools found in ancient and medieval cultures. Morgan Colt (1876-1926) was an architect, artist and furniture designer and maker - a Renaissance man - and one of founders of the New Hope School. This stool is one of his most iconic designs.
