Neoclassical Revival Swedish Painted and Carved Upholstered Bench, circa 1890
-
Description
A Neoclassical Revival Swedish carved and painted bench from the late 19th century with scrolled open arms, fluted legs, floral motifs and new upholstery. This Swedish bench features an upright rectangular back that has been reupholstered in a cotton fabric. The upper rail is accented with delicately carved foliage motifs. Two partially open arms with scrolled knuckles flank the rectangular seat. The carved skirt is adorned with the same waterleaf motifs that surround the back, interrupted on three occasions by foliages, in a rhythmic tempo echoed from the top. The bench is raised on seven legs, the front ones being fluted while the back ones are simply tapered. With its great proportions, elegant neoclassical lines and soft color palette, this Swedish 1890s bench will be an excellent choice for any hallway, living room or bedroom.
