Whether you call him a lounge chair, a soft sculpture, or your emotionally supportive floorfriend—this is the Bouloum. Originally designed in 1968 by French futurist designer Olivier Mourgue, the Bouloum was never just a chair, it was a full-on vibe. With its playful human form and laid-back recline, it’s one of the most iconic silhouettes to come out of the Space Age design movement.

This particular Bouloum? He came to us from the Northeast in rough shape—we’re talking dusty and crusty. Fully restored in a creamy, luxurious Belgian boucle, he’s soft, sculptural, and ready to spoon.

The very first Bouloums were produced in France by Airborne International from 1968 until about 1972. After that, production shifted to Canada under Arconas, a firm better known for its commercial and airport seating. While we can't say definitively whether this chair was made by Airborne or Arconas (the original tag is long gone, and the frame remains a mystery), the foam and structure suggest it may be a 1970s Arconas model—an early one, and still wildly collectible.

No matter the manufacturer, the form remains faithful to Mourgue’s original vision: bold, curvy, and totally unapologetic. And thanks to its recent top-to-bottom restoration, it’s far more comfortable (and better dressed) than most of men you’ve dated.
