Pair of Baroque Period Turned Walnut Stools, French, circa 1750
-
Description
A pair of mid-18th century French walnut stools with baluster-turned legs joined by H-form stretchers with shaped turnings. Each stool stands on block-and-ball feet. The rectangular seats have been recently re-upholstered in a ribbed textile and finished with nailhead trim. The construction reflects provincial Baroque design, where turned joinery and substantial form served both structural and decorative purposes. The walnut surfaces show a deep, aged patina.
