A pair of Swedish armchairs, circa 1880, with black painted frames and upholstered seats in pale linen, offering the matched seating that anchors so many well-composed rooms. The square backs with vertical slats and cleanly reeded frames display the balanced, restrained detailing of late 19th century Swedish work, and the dark frames read crisply against the light upholstery. Comfortably scaled, they fit where bulkier armchairs cannot: flanking a fireplace, paired at the foot of a bed, or drawn up to a games table, and they can be re-covered in a client's fabric if desired. True pairs of period Swedish armchairs are consistently in demand. Both chairs are sound, with wear consistent with age and use.
