Pair of Gustavian Klismos Chairs in Original Paint, circa 1800

Offered by: Jacqueline Adams Antiques

Description
A pair of period Gustavian klismos chairs, Swedish, circa 1800, scraped to their original paint and newly covered in linen. The klismos, antiquity's most elegant chair form with its saber legs and swept back, found perhaps its most graceful modern expression in Gustavian Sweden, and period pairs are keenly sought. These chairs unite that celebrated silhouette with the most desirable of surfaces: the original paint, recovered by painstakingly removing later layers, showing the chalky, softened color of true 18th century-technique finishes. Fresh linen seats make them immediately usable, as dining end chairs, at a writing table, or flanking a console. An exceptional pairing of form and surface, with wear consistent with age.

This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions!
