Description
Sculptural sofa/divan bed/sofa bed attributed to Paolo Buffa (Italy, ca. late 1940s/early 1950s).
Composed of a straight rail back connecting elegantly curved arms above x-form slats, all supported by moderately angled feet.
Arm rest shifts over creating 19.25" of extra room to form a bed, and removing the seat cushion exposes a hidden 'cubby' with leather loop pulls comprising two storage sections for blankets/sheets.
Cushions retain the original metal-spring construction and upholstery (6" high seat cushion is appropriately constructed like a mattress given its purpose, and back rests which double as pillows/head rests are equally dense/supportive).
Newly refinished; wear remains as shown (scuffs/general wear). Original upholstery shows only light wear.
Sourced in Rome, Italy as Paolo Buffa; unmarked (hence the formal attribution).
