Rare 19th c. Canadian Tall Back Armchair

    A rare 19th century Canadian tall back armchair in pine. Fine quality quarter sawn timber and craftsmanship, with wooden peg and tenon construction and floating panels. The back support is paneled in a three by three grid, with chamfered rails topped by ears, and the uppermost level uses a contrasting darker wood. Reverse of the back is finished similarly. Shaped arms and arm supports above a boarded seat on stile legs joined by peripheral and cross stretchers. Decorative pierced corner brackets below front of seat. Distinguished and impressive stance.
