Description
A rare and deeply characterful sculptural settee by Chicago area designer Richard Himmel. Designed in the 1970s, this settee captures Himmel’s singular approach—where traditional references are softened, exaggerated, and transformed into something at once playful and refined. Generous seat cushions and bolster pillows invite lounging, while the exaggerated proportions and fluid curves give the settee an unmistakable decorative authority. There is an almost surreal softness to Himmel’s forms—furniture as sculpture, but never at the expense of comfort.
The silhouette is beautifully resolved with sheltering scroll-like arms flowing seamlessly into shapely legs, creating an almost hand-drawn line from every angle. Shown fully upholstered in sumptuous super soft sapphire blue faux fur of the highest quality, these Hollywood Regency style sofas have a wonderfully tactile, cocooning presence. Crisp navy piping traces the contours with tailored definition, emphasizing the sculptural profile and lending a couture-like finish. Note - Complimentary professional reupholstery is available with buyer's own fabric COM.
Whether floating in a room or anchoring a chic salon with its sculptural presence, this is a collectible work of American design—luxurious, distinctive, and unmistakably Richard Himmel. Please allow 8 to 12 weeks lead time.
