Description
A Robert Lewis adjustable steel tube chaise lounge for outdoor and patio use hand crafted at his studio in Santa Barbara, CA. in the 1940s.
The asymmetric arms, the four inch diameter rubber wheels, the three position adjustable back and the built in hanging points at top corners of the seat back are great points of design.
This furniture was designed so that it could be decked in canvas, wrapped in cord or rawhide, or later webbed with the newest of outdoor upholstery, nylon webbing.
Cushions were available or not for all of these foundations.
The fixed back model of this chaise can be seen on the upper deck of Fallingwater in Mill Run, Pennsylvania to give you a sense of who were clients of Robert Lewis.
A rare and wonderful piece of Californian design from the WWII era.
The chaise is restored and in very good condition. -
