Description
With a long tradition of craftsmanship, there has always been a heightened appreciation of design throughout Scandinavia. Scandinavian design emerged as a prominent contributor to European design philosophy with many of the most well-known mid-century designers and furniture models hailing from the Nordic countries.
This sofa possesses design elements that define Scandinavian mid-century modernism, including its gentle, homely aesthetic, use of quality materials and the knowledge of master cabinetmakers. According to Scandinavian design traditions, this sofa is made of refined, yet rustic materials, such as solid wood and wool fabrics. The mid-century era was truly the heyday of the production by master craftsmen, especially the 1950s and 1960s. Furthermore, mid-century design is world-famous for the partnership between designer and manufacturer, resulting in ground-breaking creations. Accordingly, this sofa has a solid wood frame with carefully carved edges, draped in a light fabric that accentuates its curved edges. The design appears very open, which is the result of the upward pointing arms and seat, and the outward curving armrests. Together, these details create a welcoming design that communicates cosiness and wellbeing, further aided by the tufted buttons and warm wood.
Today, Scandinavian mid-century furniture is sought after by collectors for classic looks, storied designs and solid quality, exemplified by this sofa, which is soulful and timeless. With its restrained aesthetic, it creates a sense of tranquillity while the masterful sense of materials and proportions guarantee functionality and comfort.
