Michael Taylor Walnut 6 Dining Chairs Baker Furniture Far East Collection 1950s
-
Description
A refined set of six dining chairs designed by Michael Taylor for Baker’s celebrated Far East Collection, circa 1960s. This suite includes two armchairs and four side chairs, model 6325, executed in honey walnut with a warm translucent finish that beautifully reveals the natural grain of the wood.
Michael Taylor’s Far East Collection was one of the designer’s most sophisticated programs for Baker, blending understated Asian influences with American modern elegance. The chairs feature gently flared backs with a single broad splat, subtly curved stiles, and straight tapered legs joined by H-stretchers for strength. The armchairs echo the same profile with gracefully extended arms.
The honey walnut finish is particularly striking, lending a luminous depth to the chairs while allowing the wood’s natural figure to remain visible. Upholstered seats (currently in patterned fabric) may be easily recovered to suit a new interior.
With their balance of simplicity and richness, these chairs embody Taylor’s philosophy of “quiet luxury.” They are versatile enough for both formal dining spaces and contemporary interiors. -
