Description
This bentwood armchair reflects the quiet clarity of late 19th-century Austrian design, shaped in the spirit of the Thonet workshop at a moment when craft and industry began to converge. Steam-bent beechwood allows the frame to unfold as a continuous line, with backrest and arms resolving into a single, fluid gesture, light in appearance yet assured in structure. The round seat, with its restrained decorative detail, and the circular stretcher express a measured balance between function and refinement.
No maker’s mark is present, yet the construction, proportions, and overall vocabulary closely align with documented Thonet models and the broader Central European bentwood tradition. Chairs of this kind formed part of everyday interiors such as cafés, meeting rooms, and domestic spaces, valued for their durability and ease of use. The surface shows a gentle patina consistent with time and use. As with all our rustic and antique wooden pieces, it has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment to support long-term preservation. -
