Description
Elegant set of two beautiful made bentwood chairs made by the renowned company of Thonet in Vienna/ Austria in the period around 1895. This appealing pair of early Art Nouveau chairs from the early 1st series, more precisely the famous Thonet coffeehouse chair with the model No. 14, has been elaborately handcrafted out of fine bentwood (=beechwood that has been formed under hot steam and high pressure) and trimmed to a lovely brown nut wood look. The No.14, also known as the coffee house or bistro chair, can still be seen in cafes all over the world. The Swiss-French Modernist architect Le Corbusier said “never was a better and more elegant design and a more precisely crafted and practical item created.” Its elegant curves have clearly stood the test of time and in the words of British designer Jasper Morrison, “it has the freshness of a new product, because it has never been bettered.” This antique Art Nouveau seating set of two provides comfortable seating surfaces, still holding the famous original (!) traditional "vienesse mesh". A fantastic pair of timeless designed, late 19th century Austrian Thonet bentwood chairs, coming to you in absolute great original condition.
