Rare Carabou Dining Set in Rattan and Cherry Wood by Bonacina

Tito Agnoli for Pierantonio Bonacina rare exquisite Carabou dining set consisting of a round cherry wood and rattan round dining table and four woven rattan dining chairs. This architectural dining table has a cherry wood top and a braided rattan conical base with cutout triangular cherry pieces attached on top. The Carabou model dining chairs are sculptural with their organic soft curves throughout including the backs and rounded seats which seamlessly end in a slightly curved front bottom and back. The chairs are meticulously wrapped in a woven rattan with a lovely cheasnut stain. This Pierantonio Bonacina Carabou dining set is truly unique and the model rarely seen in this beautifully hand-woven rattan.

For more than a century, Bonacina has exemplified Italian excellence with its history and craftsmanship of furniture-making. It was founded by Giovanni Bonacina in 1889 in Lurago d'Erba, located in hilly and fertile area of Brianza which is north of Milan. Using the local materials reed and cane of this region along with rattan from southeast Asia, Bonacina combined two traditional crafts practiced in the region - basketry and furniture making. During the 1950s, the revolution in design and art flourished in which Bonacina embraced this collaboration between production experience and talented architects and designers of the period. This iconic and rare model set was a product of this fruitful collaboration with the original design by Tito Agnoli and made by Pierantonio Bonacina in 1991.
