Description
Original Pair of Van Keppel-Green Expanded Metal Series Chairs, Model 872, 1953
An original pair of iconic Van Keppel-Green (VKG) Model 872 side chairs from the celebrated Expanded Metal Series, designed circa 1953. These mid-century modern chairs feature sculptural expanded metal mesh backs and seats, tubular steel arms, and removable seat cushions, embodying the clean industrial aesthetic that made VKG a pioneer of California modern outdoor furniture design.
The chairs retain their original black enamel finish on the steel frames, displaying minor scratches, paint loss, and scattered rust spots consistent with age and normal use. The removable cushions have been reupholstered at some point in their history and are currently covered in black vinyl. Despite the expected wear, the pair presents beautifully and remains structurally sound.
A desirable and increasingly scarce example of early VKG design, suitable for both indoor and covered outdoor settings.
