Vintage Pair Swedish Ebonized Beechwood Sunfeather Lounge Chairs by Sonna Rosen

Pair of ebonized beechwood “Solfjädern” (Sunfeather) lounge chairs designed by Sonna Rosén in 1948 for Nässjö Stolfabrik, Sweden (these are early 1950s examples).
A refined, modern take on a traditional Windsor chair featuring spindle-construction and rounded back/arm rests with dramatically slanted back legs connecting the 'dropped' back of the angled spindles to form a fan, giving the appearance of a sunbeam, sunburst or rising sun.
A stylistic achievement combining form and function with its visual elegance and ergonomic comfort, the Solfjädern chair was awarded the "Good Design" award by the Modern Art Museum MoMa in New York in 1952.
Very good, conservatively restored condition, retaining the original 'oil spot' vinyl seats. Patina/light wear to the ebonized finish (some spots of finish loss and scuffs present, particularly to the arm rests).
Seats are easily removable for simple reupholstery, though vinyl can be used as is.
