18th Century French Lyonnaise Walnut Armoire
-
Description
A magnificent and imposing Lyonnaise wardrobe from the 18th century, crafted in richly grained walnut and showcasing the opulence of provincial French cabinetry. This tall armoire features a striking double-arched cornice that sits gracefully above two paneled doors, each adorned with deep, hand-carved moldings in asymmetrical Rococo-inspired patterns. The center crosspiece is embellished with a carved eight-pointed star motif, a regional signature detail. Inside, three generously sized shelves offer ample storage. Scrolled feet and a shaped apron lend elegance to the base, while the original wrought iron locking system and shaped key remain intact and fully functional. The armoire is in very good condition, with a warm, lustrous patina that reflects its age and quality craftsmanship. A showpiece with presence and utility.
