Description
This 18th-century Gustavian sideboard, circa 1790, is a remarkable example of Swedish neoclassical design, blending functionality with timeless elegance. Constructed from pine, the sideboard features a painted finish in a soft, distressed white tone, characteristic of the Gustavian style, which sought to brighten interiors with its light and airy aesthetic.
The piece is thoughtfully designed with a serpentine front and fluted detailing on the rounded side doors, reflecting the classical influence of the period. It includes two central paneled doors flanked by curved side doors, opening to reveal ample storage space with adjustable shelving. The top section is complemented by a raised back gallery, adding to its practical functionality. Two upper drawers provide additional storage, enhanced by delicate escutcheons and brass pulls.
Supported by tapered, fluted legs, this sideboard combines graceful proportions with practicality, making it an ideal addition to a dining room, living area, or entryway. It captures the elegance and simplicity of 18th-century Swedish craftsmanship.
This is an antique and having been around for a long time, it will show signs of wear. Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions!. -
