Description
This Brazilian Modern bookshelf from the 1960s exemplifies the period’s commitment to modularity, material quality, and architectural restraint. Constructed from naval plywood veneered in rosewood, the piece features a refined vertical structure composed of four adjustable shelves and an upper horizontal bar that reinforces stability while adding a subtle graphic element.
The lower section incorporates a closed cabinet with doors and internal shelving, offering concealed storage that balances the open rhythm of the upper display. The rosewood veneer presents rich tonal variation and expressive grain, carefully refinished to a smooth satin finish that respects the material’s natural depth.
Though the designer remains unknown, the bookshelf reflects the ethos of Brazilian Modernism—furniture conceived as integrated architectural elements rather than isolated objects. Functional, adaptable, and visually disciplined, this piece works equally well in residential or professional interiors, embodying the quiet confidence of mid-century Brazilian craftsmanship. -
