This beautifully made Art Deco Streamlined High Chest in Book-matched Walnut, Burled Carpathian Elm & Black Lacquer Accents is by the esteemed artist and designer Donald Deskey and originates from the United States, Circa 1935. Features three primary sections of drawers and unique sculptural pulls formed in burled carpathian elm, a rare lumber sourced from the Carpathian mountain range which forms a crescent across central Europe. The upper and lower thirds feature two large drawers with a round raised element from which the pulls emerge from either side, one on the lowest edge of the upper drawer and the other on the highest edge of the lower drawer. This motif is repeated in the lower third. The center of the piece has three more shallow drawers with full length pulls and black lacquer detailing between each. This sleek detailing is also present along the top and bottom edges of the piece, which rolls on casters for ease of movement and placement. The remainder of the piece is formed in book-matched and burled walnut, finished beautifully and revealing the subtle difference in material between the sculptural pulls and the surface of the piece. Designed by Donald Deskey, the preeminent modernist designer in the United States with an illustrious career designing and fabricating pieces for some of the most well known interiors in modern history, most notable the interior of Radio City Music Hall. This High Chest is sure to draw the eye of discerning collectors and those with an appreciation for the best design and craft from the 20th century, and will style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Art Deco to Contemporary and Minimal Spaces.
