Description
Crafted in solid chestnut during the 19th century, this rustic French cabinet reflects the expressive simplicity of vernacular folk craftsmanship. Built from thick hand-worked planks, the piece possesses a strong architectural presence softened by a carved crest depicting two confronting birds. A subtle decorative motif that introduces rhythm and symbolism to its otherwise austere form. The original wrought iron hinges, shaped in elegant curling forms, reinforce the cabinet’s handmade character and authentic rural identity. The wood has developed a deep, dark patina over time, with visible grain, marks, and irregularities that emphasize the tactile richness and sculptural quality of the piece.
Raised on elongated supports with a shaped lower stretcher, the cabinet embodies a refined primitive aesthetic that integrates naturally into wabi-sabi, rustic modern, and collectible interiors. As with all of our rustic antique furniture, this piece has undergone a professional two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term conservation and care. -
