Description
A French Transition style walnut buffet from the early 19th century, with two drawers over two doors, carved stars and scalloped apron. Created in France during the early years of the 19th century, this walnut buffet belongs to the "Style Transition" which saw the passage between the curvy lines of the Louis XV era to the calm, neoclassical inspiration of the Louis XVI taste. The buffet features a rectangular planked top sitting above two drawers adorned with carved panels. Fitted with brass pulls, the drawers present a dovetail construction revealing the piece's good age. Two doors below are decorated with carved panels with arching motifs. They are separated from one another through a fluted post and are fitted with Rococo style hardware. The sides are made of recessed panels and the back is, of course, unfinished. The ensemble is raised on four feet, scrolling in the front and connected to one another through a carved stretcher. The hind ones are simply straight. The façade's center is marked by two stars carved in the upper and lower sections. With its Transition lines and walnut patina, this French buffet from the early 19th century will make for a wonderful addition to any home, placed in a living room or dining room.
