French Louis XVI Mahogany Demilune Commode

Description
A rare example from the atelier of furniture maker Fidelis, or Fidelys, Schey circa 1780. Made in Paris, the demilune commode is topped with dark, black and gray marble that is shaped specifically to match the curves and breaks in the cabinetry below. The main body of the piece offers three drawers opened with brass ring pulls, the drawers are framed by fluted pilasters and reeded brass panels. Fluting and brass accents extend down through the taped legs to form a balanced and cohesive work of art. Stamped into the wood under the marble slab is “F. SCHEY,”, while a sticker in the top drawer also identifies the maker. Please view all the detailed images.
