Description
FRENCH MODERNIST CERUSED OAK SIDEBOARD BUFFET
Jean Claude Mahey for Maison Romeo
French, circa 1980
Brass signed Mahey plaque lower right
33 1/16" H x 82 3/8" W x 21 7/8" D
Constructed in cerused oak veneers, this long and low buffet exemplifies Jean Claude Mahey’s disciplined approach to steamlined French furniture design in the postwar period. The rectilinear case is grounded by a solid plinth base and fitted with four mirrored doors, each overlaid with a lattice of oak battens. The geometry of the lattice is mirrored in the carefully book-matched oak veneers.
The doors open easily and reveal an interior organized with adjustable shelving and a bank of drawers.
Condition: Good vintage condition, probably refinished at some point. No key. Minor scuffs, scratches/etc. to the vintage surface throughout. Ready to place.
