Gustavian Tallcase Clock
-
Description
An elegant tall-case Gustavian clock having an imposing bonnet with an three-finial arched cornice on a sinuous bombe body with shaped door and narrow waist over a curved plinth, all in a lovely dry scraped lime white surface. The desirable eight day movement is especially fine, being made and boldly signed by the noted clock maker Olof Rising of Gotheborg, who crafted the movement in the central clock tower of that city. The clockface is decorated with steel hands inside a pewter ring on a gold background surrounded by puttis and angels. The movement is powered by the original pendulum and weights, and is guaranteed for one year. Sweden, circa 1760.
