A highly decorative late 19th century (circa 1890) French mahogany vitrine or display cabinet in the Directoire style.
This vitrine consists of a white marble top surrounded by a pierced brass gallery leading down to a recessed panel surrounded by a brass moulding with rectangular inlaid brass decoration to the corners, this design replicated to each side.
This leads down to a single glazed door with key with brass moulding and fluted brass decoration to either side.
The door opens to reveal two glass adjustable shelves and two mirrored panels to the back of the cabinet, the sides with glazed panels with brass mouldings and fluted brass decoration.
The lower section consists of a brass moulded edge with recessed panel below surrounded by a brass moulding with rectangular inlaid brass decoration to the corners, this design replicated to each side.
This leads down to larger glazed door with key with brass moulding and fluted brass decoration to either side.
The door opens to reveal three wooden shelves with brass stringing to the front and sides, the sides with glazed panels and brass mouldings with fluted brass decoration.
This leads down to a brass moulding with mahogany plinth below all supported on four elegantly turned feet with brass collars and brass castors.
This vitrine is in very good condition for age, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home – the top and base sections separate which helps when moving the vitrine.
