Brazilian Modern Armoire in Hardwood by Moveis Cimo, 1950s, Brazil

$ 18,000
  • Description
    Available today, this one-of-a-kind Brazilian Modern Armoire in Hardwood by Moveis Cimo in the fifties is a very rare FIND and is gorgeous!

    The armoire is entirely made in Imbuia hardwood and features a rectangular structure with curved ends, two doors with yellow circles that act as handles and four delicate legs. This piece encapsulates the Brazilian Modernist aesthetic of the fifties: straight lines, curved ends, exuberant use of wood. The quality of the wood is excellent and the joinery is also fantastic. Finding a piece like this in good condition is quite difficult. This may be because in the fifties, high quality furniture was still artisanal and production badges were much smaller than in the sixties and onwards, when the country’s industrialization started. Attached contemporary publications showcasing the piece.

    The video showcases the armoire next to a chest of drawers which is also available for sale.

    This piece would look great in any Mid-Century Modern, or postmodern type environment and the iconic design and Size will make this desk an absolute must in everyone’s mid modern century collection.

    Cimo's history starts in 1921 with a wood boxes factory called A.Ehrl e Cia. and ends in 1982 as a furniture factory, after a lot of names and format changes, as Móveis Cimo S.A. Cimo was committed to industrialization, carrying out the standardization of products, and facing serial production challenges. In the search for more accessible prices for the popular strata, the company did not abandon the possibility of developing quality products by rationalizing production, making better use of materials, and using advanced technologies for the time. Móveis Cimo became the largest furniture producer in Latin America, playing a fundamental role in developing its region and the advancement of manufacturing series furniture in the country, being a Pioneer in several sectors and an essential chapter in the history of Brazilian furniture making.
