Magnificent Italian Chest of Drawers, Original Louis XVI Period, Late 18th Cent
-
Description
This exceptional Italian chest of drawers dates to the original Louis XVI period, circa late 18th century, and stands as a superb example of neoclassical craftsmanship and decorative artistry. Constructed with a solid walnut structure, the piece is finely veneered in a variety of fruitwoods including cherry and maple, and enriched with exquisite marquetry detailing. The top drawer features a delicate floral frieze, while the two lower drawers are adorned with a central medallion inlaid with stylized foliage, bordered by diagonal veneers and framed in contrasting wood stringing.
The chest retains its original ormolu hardware and escutcheons, adding refinement and subtle shine to its stately façade. A decorative dentil border along the apron and delicate floral inlays on the legs reinforce the symmetry and elegance typical of Louis XVI design. The drawers operate smoothly and offer generous storage. Perfect for anchoring a formal bedroom, entryway, or living space, this piece is both a functional furnishing and a work of Italian decorative art. -
