Description
This monumental Art Deco counter originates from the interior of a historic haberdashery shop in the centre of Novara, Italy. Commissioned by the owners and crafted by artisans from Milan during the mid-20th century, it formed part of a complete bespoke retail installation and reflects the sophisticated architectural approach to Italian commercial interiors of the period.
The counter is distinguished by its broad, sweeping curvature, glass-topped surface, warm wood veneer and contrasting darker trim, with pronounced horizontal banding continuing around the façade. Its recessed working side incorporates three drawers alongside open shelving and storage compartments, combining a strong sculptural presence with the functional clarity required of a purpose-built retail interior.
A rare surviving element of this historic shop interior, the counter shares its architectural language with the accompanying monumental display cabinets, creating a remarkably coherent ensemble rooted in the late Art Deco tradition and emerging Italian modernism. This counter forms part of the complete bespoke retail installation; for further information or enquiries about the complete ensemble, please reach out to us. -
