Description
Osvaldo Borsani for AVB (Arredamenti Borsani, Varedo) rare and extraordinary two-door fluted front cabinet or sideboard in mahogany decorated with cast bronze door pulls by Lucio Fontana, Italy, 1950s. The top of the cabinet has an inset reverse-painted glass sheet, and the lovely interior has two maple drawers and three maple adjustable shelves inside, and original brass key. This gorgeous cabinet exhibits exquisite attention to details throughout including the fluted front, wood graining on the sides, beautifully matched mahogany colored glass top, sculptural bronze handles and beautiful architectural brass key, and finely crafted interior. The two-door cabinet front is mounted with an elegant pair of fantastical baroque gilt bronze handles depicting female figures based on a Lucio Fontana model. This elegant model cabinet or sideboard is extremely rare and more often seen as a similar wardrobe version. It masterfully showcases timeless craftsmanship and sophisticated Italian design for which Osvaldo Borsani midcentury pieces were known for and greatly admired.
Beginning in Italy during the early 1950s, Osvaldo Borsani, a principal proponent of the Art Deco style in Italy, and Lucio Fontana, founder of the Spatialist movement, collaborated on a number of projects. This rare two-door cabinet is an example of how they typically cooperated, with Borsani producing the furniture onto which Fontana would contribute surface decorations. -
