Swedish 1810s Gustavian Period Painted Sideboard with Carved Diamond Motifs
-
Description
A Swedish Gustavian period painted wood sideboard from the early 19th century, with three-quarter gallery, carved frieze, two drawers, two doors and reeded diamond motifs. Created in Sweden during the early years of the 19th century, this painted sideboard features a rectangular top surrounded by a three-quarter gallery, sitting above a carved frieze. Two drawers, adorned with reeded motifs and fitted with brass escutcheons, are followed by two doors. Decorated with vertical diamond motifs with reeded accents, these doors open to reveal inner shelves offering convenient storage space. The sideboard is painted in a soft color with nicely distressed appearance, typical of the Swedish taste for light palettes aiming at brightening the rooms during the dark winters of Scandinavia. The ensemble is raised on four short tapered feet giving a perfect visual conclusion.
