Description
A Swedish Gustavian Style painted wood sideboard circa 1870 with carved dentil molding, three drawers, three doors and carved diamond motifs. Transport yourself to the refined elegance of Swedish Gustavian design with this exquisite painted wood sideboard from the late 19th century. Crafted with impeccable attention to detail, this piece exemplifies the Classic Gustavian Style and will add a touch of sophistication to any interior.
The sideboard features a slightly raised rectangular top that sits gracefully above a carved dentil moulding, providing a subtle yet distinctive architectural element. The facade is composed of three drawers in the upper section, each adorned with horizontal diamond motifs carved in low relief. These motifs create a sense of visual interest and add a touch of classical charm. The drawers are outfitted with brass hardware.
Below the drawers, three doors complete the ensemble, each featuring recessed panels that serve as a canvas for the vertical carved receded diamond motifs. These motifs, with their refined elegance, beautifully accentuate the overall design of the sideboard. The doors open to reveal inner shelves, offering convenient storage space for your dining essentials or cherished possessions.
While the sides of the sideboard remain plain, a subtle division is present, echoing the layout of the facade and providing a harmonious balance to the design. The back of the sideboard is left unfinished, as is typical of pieces from this period.
The sideboard is raised on slightly curving tapered legs, adding a touch of grace and sophistication to the overall Silhouette. Painted in a soft color that is characteristic of Scandinavian taste, this piece exudes a sense of tranquillity and timeless beauty.
With its carved dentil moulding, diamond motifs, and elegant proportions, this Swedish Gustavian Style sideboard is a true testament to the refined craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibilities of the era. Whether placed in a dining room, living area, or hallway, it will effortlessly elevate the ambiance of any space, adding a touch of Gustavian elegance and creating a focal point that will be admired for years to come. -
