Description
This vernacular credenza cabinet, attributed to Northern Italy and associated with the Emilia Romagna region, is believed to date to circa the 17th century. It is defined by its straightforward construction and utilitarian character, crafted in solid wood with a compact yet substantial form. The double doors open to a practical interior fitted with multiple shelves, while the exterior is finished in a dark, timeworn paint revealing traces of earlier layers and a surface shaped by prolonged use.
Its restrained proportions and emphasis on function reflect a vernacular approach to furniture making typical of rural Italian traditions, where practicality guided both material and form. The aged surface, marked by wear, tonal variation, and subtle irregularities, lends the cabinet a quiet sculptural presence aligned with wabi-sabi sensibilities. As with all our rustic furniture, this piece has undergone a two-cycle preventive woodworm treatment for long-term preservation. -
