Description
A striking 17th century chestnut console table, this antique piece showcases the bold craftsmanship and sculptural character that define early European furniture. The demi-lune top reveals the rich, organic grain and deep tonal variation unique to aged chestnut, with a beautifully worn surface that carries centuries of authentic patina. Its restrained top profile contrasts elegantly with the dramatic movement of the base, creating a piece that feels both architectural and highly decorative.
The console is raised on an exceptional trestle-form base with deeply cut scrolling supports, all hand-shaped from solid chestnut. A boldly carved stretcher with foliate-inspired curves joins the supports, adding strength while emphasizing the rhythmic silhouette and negative space so prized in 17th century craftsmanship. The naturally darkened chestnut has developed a warm, earthy depth over time, highlighting the honest texture and enduring beauty of the wood.
Ideal as an entry console, wall table, or statement accent, this 17th century chestnut example brings remarkable age, presence, and authenticity to any interior. Its sculptural form and rich historic surface make it particularly compelling in both traditional and contemporary spaces where true period pieces are appreciated.
Antique pieces have very much sought-after character and associated flaws. Please review photos for condition & contact us with questions! -
