Description
This sculptural bean-shaped table captures the experimental spirit of late 1950s Italian design, where organic form met modern materiality. Its silhouette — fluid, asymmetrical, and sensuous — evokes the biomorphic tendencies of the period, translating natural inspiration into a refined and functional object.
The top in dark slate gives the piece a remarkable visual and tactile depth. Its soft matte surface, subtly reflective and irregular in tone, introduces a sense of natural gravity balanced by the table’s delicate structure. The stone’s curved perimeter is finely chamfered, lending a smooth edge that highlights the craftsmanship and care invested in its making.
Supporting the sculptural kidney-shaped top, a series of slender iron legs converge elegantly towards the floor. Their graphic linearity contrasts with the organic softness of the top, achieving a perfect equilibrium between solidity and lightness. The geometry of the base, minimal and architectural, enhances the sense of suspension, as if the stone surface were gently hovering in space.
Whether used as a writing desk or side table, the piece embodies a rare combination of sensuality and precision. It speaks of a time when Italian designers sought harmony between the artisanal and the industrial, and when form was guided as much by intuition as by structure.
