A Metal and Glass Coffee Table After A Design by Marc Du Plantier
-
Description
Marc Du Plantier (1901-1975) created the design for this table circa 1934 for the home of a M. Bignon, Paris. His original design was for a table of gilt iron and glass and he subsequently produced variations in varying metals and patinations including one for his own home.
Du Plantier as a decorator in Paris had a small but exceptionally wealthy clientele interested in sumptuous modern design but with the onset of the Second World War he fled with his family to Madrid where he developed a new range of clients. Following the war, Du Plantier abandoned interior design and immersed himself in creating painting and sculpture. His work and designs of the mid 1930s are considered the pinnacle of his career.
This piece is clearly a modern but faithful interpretation of his work. -
