Description
the Eros dining table is among the most recognizable expressions of the Italian architect and designer’s lifelong investigation into material, structure and gravity. Educated at the Politecnico di Milano, Mangiarotti approached furniture with the rigor of an architect and engineer, allowing the inherent properties of materials to determine both construction and form. Marble occupied a particularly important place within his work, and the Eros series exemplifies his ability to transform a traditionally heavy material into an object of remarkable visual clarity and sculptural refinement.
Executed entirely in white marble, the table consists of a circular top supported by a substantial tapered pedestal. The elements are joined through Mangiarotti’s characteristic gravity-based construction, in which the weight and precisely shaped profile of the stone create the structural connection without visually dominant hardware. Subtle natural veining gives depth to the otherwise restrained composition, while the broad circular format comfortably accommodates approximately six people. Combining engineering intelligence with elemental geometry, the Eros table remains a significant example of post-war Italian design. -
