Description
Antique Belle Époque style ormolu mounted guéridon
French, Early 20th Century
Height 75.5cm, diameter 73cm
Crafted by skilled French artisans in the early 20th century, this exquisite guéridon exemplifies the refined aesthetic of the Belle Époque era.
At its heart, a beautifully inlaid circular tabletop showcases an intricate parquetry design, framed by a border of delicate ribbon-tied floral marquetry. Below, the frieze mirrors this craftsmanship, featuring a central rectangular panel outlined in brass inlay and adorned with an ornate ormolu appliqué. This decorative element portrays a sculpted female bust, accompanied by flourishing cornucopias brimming with fruit and flowers - traditional symbols of prosperity and abundance. Identical ormolu mounts grace all four sides, with one discreetly concealing a spacious drawer for added practicality.
The guéridon stands on four gracefully curved cabriole legs, each adorned with finely cast ormolu embellishments, including elegant foliage motifs at the knees and regal lion-paw sabots at the feet. Connecting the legs, four stretchers lead to a central pierced ormolu basket, introducing an additional decorative flourish to this remarkable piece.
Marrying superior craftsmanship with timeless charm, this magnificent guéridon is a perfect statement piece for both classic and modern interiors. -
