Description
This charming console table was made in Sweden in the late 19th century in the Baroque style. In Sweden the style is known as ‘nybarock’ (new Baroque or Baroque Revival) The rectangular top has a moulded edge and shows a lively oak grain. Below it, the frieze is framed by fluted corner blocks. Four spiral turned legs rest on square blocks and are joined by a cross stretcher with a stepped profile, standing on bun feet. The oak is stained a deep reddish brown with a warm, even tone. Its proportions make it a versatile piece, equally suited as a console in a hall, a table behind a sofa or a display table in a living room. The spiral legs, cross stretcher and bun feet give the table the robust, warm character of Baroque furniture, in a compact size.
The table is in very good antique condition, with a patina and normal signs of wear consistent with its age. -
