Description
This very rare pair of armchairs was designed by Gio Ponti and produced in Italy in the late 1930s. The model was first presented at the VI Triennale di Milano in 1936, in an exhibition interior designed by Ponti. The pair is accompanied by an expertise certificate from the Gio Ponti Archives.
The elegant design is defined by its rounded, enveloping form. The curved backrest flows into the arms, the deep seat sits comfortable and inviting. The front legs are tapered and the back legs gently curved, all in solid walnut. The upholstery is in a vivid, lemon yellow linen and silk blend fabric with a slight sheen. The elegant silhouette, soft curves and balanced proportions are exemplary of Gio Ponti’s work.
The chairs are in very good condition. The wooden legs have been restored. The chairs were reupholstered at a later date and the fabric is still in good condition. -
