Bobbin Turned Drop Side Table
-
Description
An early 19th century solid oak table with rectangular top flanked by two hinged drop leaves that fold down or extend, making it ideal for flexible use in dining, entryway, or library settings. The table stands on splayed legs with bold bobbin turning that add sculptural interest. Horizontal stretchers provide stability and enhance the silhouette. The drop sides are supported on tuck away pivoting arms under the center board, rather than on gate legs, making the table useful with two chairs as a small breakfast table in a kitchen. Would also suit as a lamp table or a book table. Good rich finish. English, circa 1830.
