Early 17th-Century Lombard Louis XIV Walnut Table with Baluster Legs
-
Description
An exceptional Lombard Louis XIV table from the first half of the 17th century, masterfully carved in solid walnut. This early piece of Italian craftsmanship showcases the architectural rigor and sculptural richness characteristic of Northern Italy in the 1600s. The rectangular top features a finely carved frieze with hobnailed dentil molding and an intricate beak-of-owl edge, exemplifying the precision and artistry of the Lombard school. Supported by six robust baluster-turned legs joined by a box stretcher, the structure conveys both strength and symmetry. A discreet side drawer adds functional refinement without disturbing the table’s sculptural balance. The patina reveals a deep, centuries-old warmth that speaks to its authenticity and preservation. Both imposing and elegant, this table stands as a rare example of early Baroque furniture — a harmonious blend of architectural presence, decorative detail, and enduring craftsmanship from Lombardy’s golden age.
